How Our OEM/ODM Process Works —From Brief to Delivery
How Our OEM/ODM Process Works —From Brief to Delivery
Starting your own private label cosmetics line involves more steps than most new brand founders anticipate. At Fermic Industrial, we have spent over 25 years refining a manufacturing process that takes brands from initial product brief to finished, shelf-ready goods — with full transparency and dedicated project support at every stage. Here is exactly how it works.
Step 1 — Initial Consultation & Product Direction
Every project begins with a conversation. Share your target consumer profile, intended market, price positioning, and any hero ingredient preferences. Our team will confirm which formulation direction and delivery format best fits your objectives, and flag any regulatory considerations for your target market early in the process.
What to prepare at this stage
Typical inputs include: target market (EU, US, Asia), product type (serum, mask, sunscreen, etc.), claimed benefits, packaging preference, and estimated order volume. The more detail you share upfront, the faster we can align on the right formulation direction.
Step 2 — Formulation Development & Sampling
Based on your brief, our R&D team — supported by our collaboration with National Chiayi University — either selects from our existing proven formulation library (ODM path) or develops a custom formula to your specification (OEM path). We prepare physical samples for your review, typically within 2 to 4 weeks depending on formulation complexity.
ODM path
Select from our existing library of proven, stable formulations and apply your branding. Fastest route to a finished product — ideal for brands launching quickly or testing a new category.
OEM path
Fully custom formula developed to your specification. Revisions are part of the process — we iterate on texture, scent, color, and performance until the sample meets your approval.
Step 3 — Stability & Safety Testing
Before any formula proceeds to production, it undergoes stability testing (accelerated and real-time) and microbial challenge testing at our in-house lab. Safety data is not an afterthought — it is built into the development timeline from the start.
EU market: PIF preparation
For brands targeting the European market, we prepare the Product Information File (PIF) to support your cosmetic product notification through the EU's CPNP portal. This includes the full technical dossier: product description, manufacturing method, safety assessment data, stability data, and preservative efficacy data.
Other markets
For brands targeting the US, Asia, or other regions, we provide the relevant safety data documentation your specific regulatory pathway requires. Our team stays current with market-by-market UV filter and ingredient regulations.
Step 4 — Packaging Sourcing & Design
We source packaging components from qualified suppliers and coordinate your artwork application — whether that's applying your pre-designed label or working with our design team to develop your packaging from scratch.
Production release checks
Before any batch is authorized for full production, we verify fill-weight accuracy, component compatibility, and closure torque. These checks protect against costly packaging failures downstream and ensure the finished product matches your approved sample exactly.
Step 5 — Production & Quality Control
Full-batch manufacturing takes place at our ISO 22716-certified facility in Chiayi, Taiwan. Our production team conducts in-process checks and a final release QC inspection on every batch — no exceptions.
In-process checks
Viscosity, pH, appearance, and fill-weight are verified at key production milestones throughout the batch run.
Final release inspection
Every batch is reviewed against its full release specification before shipment authorization is issued. We maintain 30-day database backups and 7-day document backups as standard, providing a complete audit trail for every order.
Step 6 — Shipping & After-Sales Support
Finished goods are packaged and shipped to your destination — DDP, FOB, or EXW, depending on your preference. We provide all necessary export documentation, including Certificate of Analysis and Certificate of Origin.
Post-shipment support
Our team remains available after delivery for regulatory queries, reorder coordination, and formula updates as your brand evolves. We treat long-term manufacturing partnerships as the norm, not the exception.
FAQ: Common Questions About Our OEM Process
- What is the minimum order quantity?
Minimum order quantities vary by product type and packaging format. Capsule products and specialty formats typically have higher minimums than standard lotion or toner. Contact us with your product type and we will provide a specific MOQ for your project. - How long does the full process take?
For an ODM project using an existing formulation, total lead time from signed purchase order to shipment is typically 8 to 12 weeks. Custom OEM development adds 4 to 8 weeks for formulation development and testing prior to production. - Do you support small brands and startups?
Yes. We work with boutique startups launching their first product as well as established brands requiring high-volume output. Our production lines are built to be flexible, and our project management team provides the same level of support regardless of order size. - Can you help with EU regulatory compliance?
Yes. We support PIF (Product Information File) preparation, which is required for cosmetic product notification in the EU. We also provide CPSR-ready safety data to support your safety assessor's review.
